Songtao Lake is located in the upstream of Nandu River, across three towns namely Danzhou, Baisha and Qiongzhong. Honored as the Pearl of the Island, Songtao Lake is the source of drinking water for all Hainan people and one of the 10 national reservoirs. It was first built in 1958 and the construction was carried on for 10 years. It is also one of the largest earth dam projects in China. The dam is 80.1 high and 760m long intercepts the roaring Nandu River water in the Nanfengyang and the Fanjiayang river valleys. The Songtao Reservoir is in surface area of 130.5 square kilometers, and has many islands inside. Having a volume of 3340 million cube meters, the dam stores rainfall from an area of 1400 square meters on both sides of the Nandu River, comprising an overall irrigation system and supplying water to largepieces of farm land in the north and northwest of Hainan Island.  

Huge Songtao Lake is surrounded by mountains and tropical rainforests. The lake is not only conducive for agriculture, fishery and industry, but also popular among holiday makers. The boat trip on the lake is favored by many visitors due to the view of blue water and green mountains with old trees. Sitting on the boat and floating on the lake, you will have an experience that the boat seems to be traveling in the picture.
