Zhonghe Ancient Town - Danzhou Old City, the Ancient County of Tang Dynasty

 

 

The Zhonghe ancient town is the ancient town seat of Danzhou, currently the Zhonghe Town, is a relatively aged small town in Hainan. Su Dongpo, a literary giant of Song Dynasty, had lived there for three years when he was exiled in Hainan.

 

Influenced by Su Dongpo, People living there are all fond of reciting and composing poems and are good at calligraphy.

 

In the ancient town, only West Gate (Zhenhai Gate), North Gate (Wuding Gate), Weng District(Yue District) and the walls connected two gates have survived. The town is earliest and well preserved ancient city site in Hainan. There are still well preserved ancient street, Fuxing Street, and old dwellings in the town. In May of 2006, the ancient town was listed as one of National Key Cultural Preservation Units.
